more active kids report less back pain

This morning I read an abstract from The Spine Journal that studied back pain in Danish children. The kids were sampled at age 9 and followed up with at age 12.

Those children with a high level of physical activity reported less pain in the mid and lower back than the less active kids.

With the shocking rates of childhood obesity and subsequent increasing number of conditions, diseases and disorders affecting American youth, teaching children from an early age the importance of a healthy lifestyle is imperative.

One particular organization that I am involved with is Girls on the Run of Maricopa County. You can check out the website at http://www.gotrmc.org. It's specifically for 3rd-5th grade girls, but there are tons of community programs that can help keep kids active. Check with your neighborhood YMCA or rec center for different programs they have available at reasonable costs.

And if your child complains of neck or back pain, have them checked by a Chiropractor.
